Working from home rocks.
And it has become my new normal, and the new normal for nearly half the working population in the US. No commuting. More family time. Less stress.
However, a danger lurked, and I was unknowingly surrounded by it.
You’ve probably heard of radon if you bought a house – it’s a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that naturally occurs in the environment. Prolonged exposure to high levels of this gas can cause lung cancer.
Most people get a radon test during their home inspection – as we did. However, we didn’t run a test in what became my office downstairs – we focused on the main living space.
And guess what – that test was fine. Hooray!
Now, I didn’t start working in the downstairs office until Covid started. And I was oblivious to radon until I saw an advertisement for the Airthings Wave – a radon and air quality monitor. It occurred to me that I hadn’t tested the office for Radon, so I figured I’d give it a shot.
After setting up the Airthings Wave (super easy out of the box), I was shocked to discover that my office had high radon readings. I moved the device to other rooms and luckily did not see high readings.
I took action immediately and hired a radon remediator. Radon remediation was relatively inexpensive and fast. And the Airthings Wave showed my radon levels were clear. I still use the air monitor for tracking VOCs (thanks to the Canadian fires) and humidity levels among other measures.
The Airthings Wave radon detector is an excellent investment for anyone who works from home or spends considerable time indoors. It provides comprehensive data on radon levels, temperature, humidity, and air pressure. The device also features an alarm that alerts you when levels are high, enabling you to take immediate action to reduce your exposure.
