Where should you live?
This is a website about deciding where to live – the city or the suburbs – and what do to once you get there.
When deciding where to live, what’s more important – space, commute time, schools, culture, cost, nightlife? We will examine these and other factors, rate them, rank them, and more.
Deciding where to live is one of the biggest and most expensive decisions a person or couple will make. It’s hard. We make it easier. Powered by AI (just kidding).
Why ask us?
Deciding where to live is not easy. We live in the New York metro area – but we’ve heard these same concerns from friends across the US and the globe.
Does this sound familiar? Couple moves to the city. They love it. They have kids. Space gets tight. Money is not infinite. Suburbs start calling.
So you research research research. Great schools. “Easy” commute. And the math works financially, right? And so you move to the burbs. This is where our story diverges. We couldn’t stand the commute, among other issues, and we moved back to the city. In fact, the day we moved back to the city – and our commute dropped from 90 minutes to 15 – was probably one of the happiest of our lives!
But the kids continued to get older. And the oldest hit school age. And all the little friends started moving away (to the ‘burbs). And with the pressure mounting to exodus we went back to researching towns across NYC. Then we made the move again to the burbs.
And are we finally happy after all this?
Ehh.
But the good news is we learned a ton.
And with my background as an engineer and financial analyst I built simple guides to help navigate around the choices we made blindly. Everyone assumes that you save money in the burbs – especially with kids. I have proof suggesting otherwise.
I first built these for my friends and co-workers. Now these guides will be made available for you.
In addition we will have plenty of posts about what to do once you get to your new home – whether its a building or a house.
So take a look around and then decide where to live!
